These results reflect a shift in attitude and the increase in the number of workplace drug tests that Crystal Health Group performs each year.
The shift in attitude relates to the number of organisations that are implementing workplace drug testing for what have been traditionally seen as non-safety critical roles.
This includes administration staff and senior executives.
Many companies have viewed implementing drug testing in the workplace as an unnecessary cost. However, the realisation is that drug misuse is widespread in today’s society and this impacts both health and safety, welfare and productivity in the workplace.
A high number of organisations approach Crystal Health Group as a result of problems with drug misuse among their workforce.
Drug testing failures have been as high as 35% when first implementing random drug and alcohol testing in the workplace. However, this figure is drastically reduced to less than 1% when a sustained and regular random drug testing programme is put in place.
