Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that other companies are passing off as DNA Clinics.

They are advertising that they have a DNA Clinic in cities across the UK. However, when you click on their website, this is not the case, and there is no physical location.

The DNA Clinics brand has been established since 2005. It is a reputable brand that is operated by DNA Clinics Limited in partnership with Crystal Health Group. Anything outside of these two companies are not likely to be genuine DNA Clinics.

Furthermore, DNA Clinics is an established brand partner of Boots. Selling DNA Test kits online, in partnership, direct to the UK public.

We would urge you to be vigilant when looking for a DNA Clinic online. Appointments can only be made or requested by visiting our official website or calling 0800 988 7107.

Cannabidiol, otherwise known as CBD, is a compound found in cannabis known as a cannabinoid. The most well-known cannabinoid is THC. This is the compound responsible for the ‘high’ associated with cannabis.

If you consume CBD oil, you should not test positive for cannabis on a workplace drug test. Our workplace drug tests are testing for THC and its metabolites. UK regulated CBD oil contains either very low amounts of THC or none at all. So there is little chance you will test positive for THC after using CBD oil. But, when purchasing CBD, it is imperative that you buy off a regulated seller. Also, you can check how much THC is in the product if they disclose lab results for their product.

If the CBD oil does contain trace amounts of THC, this should fall below the cut-off levels of the drug test. However, if you have bought a product outside the UK, this could be a different matter. Some unregulated CBD oils can contain up to 5% content of THC. As a result, if used regularly, you could test positive for THC.

What if you fail a drug test because of CBD oil?

So, what if you declare CBD use during a drug test and fail it because of the above? It all comes down to your employers drug and alcohol policy. In the UK, cannabis is a class B drug and can carry severe penalties for possession or supply. As a result, if you have THC in your system, your employer may not take into account how it got there. Even more so if they have a zero tolerance policy to drug use.

There is no simple answer as CBD oil becomes more popular for its claimed health benefits. It can be a grey area and many employers are taking legal advice to update their policies. Our advice is to only use regulated CBD oil purchased in the UK. As a result, you should pass any workplace drug test and avoid any unnecessary stress and anxiety.

Although trends these days show that employees are more likely to have recreational drugs in their system than alcohol, testing alcohol is still important for workplace safety.

The culture of the liquid lunch has disappeared over recent years, particularly in production and manufacturing sectors. Indeed, many of these facilities still had social clubs attached to them up until the early 1990s! Times have changed however, but we still see failed alcohol tests, albeit a relatively small amount compared to drug tests failures. For example, out of thousands of drug tests this year, we have seen only 3 alcohol tests have failures. This could be regarded as a very small percentage, but the consequences of someone under the influence of alcohol at work can be serious. Also, the 3 failures recorded this year were above the England & Wales drink-drive limit cut-off level of 35μg/100ml.

This compares to the following more stringent cut-off levels:

  • Scotland Drink Drive Limit = 22μg/100ml
  • Rail Industry = 13μg/100ml
  • Aviation = 9μg/100ml

At Crystal Health Group, we will always recommend a breath alcohol test at the same time as a drug test. In addition, this is performed free of charge when done in conjunction with a drug test.

An act of ‘random lunacy’ put a group of Metal detectorists at serious risk. They were taken to hospital after unknowingly eating cakes apparently spiked with cannabis. In total, thirteen men and women fell ill after eating the cakes.

A spokesperson for the group said “People could have died. It was lucky that no children or people on medication with serious health problems ate the cake.”

Cannabis can have a powerful effect on individuals who have not taken the drug before. Those with underlying medical conditions are more at risk as the drug increases heart rate.

This incident shows that although some people think cannabis should be legalised, it is still a potent drug that can cause considerable harm to health.

The editor of Treasure Hunting Magazine commented “I think it was an irresponsible, poorly thought-through joke.” He also went on to say that the cakes were homemade, and had not been sold.

A 48-year-old woman from County Durham has been arrested and bailed.

Pre-employment drug testing is an important part of the recruitment process. In particular, for safety critical and ‘business critical’ jobs.

The most popular drug test for this is urine testing. Both the instant ‘point of care’ screen or the lab drug test. Also, for more senior positions, clients prefer hair drug testing. This is because hair drug testing has a much longer detection window for drugs than urine.

All tests are available through our network of drug testing clinics. Also, we can arrange a mobile collection officer to visit your location.

There are lots of different options to suit your needs. Here are some examples of how we provide this service to current clients.

  • Close Protection Security. Deployment of security personnel to high risk countries.
  • Oil and Gas workers. Contractors for the industry classed as safety and business critical.

Each candidate attends a clinic appointment at locations throughout the UK. They undertake a urine point of care screen and receive the results at the appointment.

  • Network Rail (Sentinel). Pre-appointment testing for sub-contractors.

Candidates attend selected clinics or have a collection officer visit their location. A breath sample is taken for the alcohol screen. Urine samples are collected and send to the lab for testing. We upload results to the Network Rail portal.

Can we help you with your pre-employment drug testing? If yes, then call our team and we will discuss all the options with you.

Many of our commercial drug testing clients are opting for the Lab Oral Fluid Drug Test. They see it as a fairer method for drug testing in the workplace. This is partly due to the relative short drug detection window of up to 48 hours (average use). Also, they regard the test as less invasive than say urine and hair drug testing.

Furthermore, it is almost impossible to cheat. This is because when we collect the saliva, it is observed by the collection officer. As a result, this removes the chance of sample adulteration or substitution.

The Oral Fluid Drug Test is also now accredited to UKAS 17025 laboratory standards. As a result, the results of the test can be used for legal and disciplinary purposes.

Screen results are available the next working day after collection. Confirmation testing can take up to another 3 working days.

Drug Screening Options

Also, we have a Point of Care (POC) screening option available in Oral Fluid form. The benefit of this instant screen provides a sign that an individual may have drugs in their system. But, a non-negative result on this instant screen should go on to lab confirmation testing. POC screen results alone should not be used for legal or disciplinary reasons.

We can also perform alcohol testing in conjunction with this drug test.

Finally, this test is ideal for the workplace. It provides reasonable belief that drugs may have been taken in the last few days. Also, it causes very little disruption to business operations when testing many employees.

Call us today to see how this test could work for your business.

Employers may have to tackle problems relating to drug and alcohol misuse among employees at some time. It is estimated that problems caused by misuse cost UK industry £800 million per year. Problems caused by misuse disrupt business continuity and can cause financial instability. Also, there may be more severe consequences to employee’s health, safety and welfare.

All organisations have a duty of care to their employees. Drug and alcohol misuse can destroy the individual concerned. Also, it can have a detrimental effect on the wider workforce. This can also affect customers and so the organisation’s performance.

As a result, organisations must be aware of the potential problems. They should be confident that they have the expertise and drug and alcohol policy in place to deal with situations. The aim should be to drive drugs and alcohol out of the organisation, not the people. Implementation of a robust drug and alcohol testing programme is key. But it is also crucial to have a compliant drug and alcohol policy in place to underpin this process.

It is simple to take a mouth swab for a DNA test. Also, it is painless, which is important when taking a sample from a child.

Cells not Saliva!

Another reason we use the mouth swab is because it is an easy way to collect human cells. In the case of DNA testing, it is the cheek cells we need. People often think it is saliva we need. Although your saliva does contain some cells, these are not enough for the DNA test.

By rubbing on the inside of your cheek for around 20 seconds, the mouth swab will collect enough cheek cells. Also, we provide 2 mouth swabs for each person. We would use the second swab if someone had not collected enough cheek cells on the first.

DNA is robust!

The swabs are air dried by flicking them. This is to reduce any excessive saliva. After this, they get placed in a sample envelope with the persons details on. Your cells (DNA) is very robust, and will last for a few months on the mouth swab.

The video provides a helpful demonstration for collecting your DNA samples.

The instructions within our DNA kits are simple and clear. But if you do have any questions, please call us. One of our team will guide you through the instructions.
